Goodbye Fuzzy and Wuzzy Rats…

Our hairless rats passed away recently.  I have had (and have) pets as wonderful as these two, but none better.  Goodbye Fuzzy and Wuzzy Rats.  We love you, and we will miss you very much.

A Day in the Life of a Vet

My last story about Fuzzy and Wuzzy was just published on Omaha.net.  The link to the story is below.  Maybe I will write a remembering or looking back sort of story later (or a photo story – that would definitely be the cutest choice…)  But in Real Life, this is the last chapter.  I am really not ok with that.

And, you don’t have to be okay with that. This is hard. Thank you, Shawn, sharing this with all of us.

Thank you Mary! You are right, this is hard. But knowing you and our friends and my family are here and understand helps so much!

Hi, Doc! As the former housemate to many ratties in the past few years, I have loved finding your blogs! I have had rats of every color and come to live with most of them through rescue, from humans that could no longer care for them. This is not to say that I have never bought any of my companions, but I am a huge advocate of recycled animals! All of my current non-human friends (I hesitate to ever say that any animal is “mine”, I belong to them as much as they belong to me!) were adopted from the Nebraska Humane Society. I shed tears uopn reading that Fuzzy & Wuzzy had crossed the Rainbow Bridge… And those 2 topics are why I am reaching out to you: I have a friend that is a fellow rattie lover and cancer survivor. He has professed his desire to have a hairless Dumbo rat (I advised that he ‘had to have’ a pair!) and I was hoping that you would let me know if you know a responsible breeder or a local adoption resource. You can contact me. Thanks for sharing all your amazing stories! =)

Hi Laura! Thank you for your kind words! I have had many wonderful rats in the past too – I miss them all, but Fuzzy and Wuzzy REALLY got to me!The person who gave us Fuzzy and Wuzzy (and three others to our nieces and nephew) does not raise ratties anymore and another wonderful breeder I knew moved away.I know Rat Rescue of Nebraska has wonderful pets (Our friends adopted a half-hairless from them! :)) and Nebraska Humane Society, like you said, has great pets too. They occasionally will get a hairless ratty. Petsmart too. I will put the word out for your friend and let you know what I find!I think Fuzzy and Wuzzy may have gotten into a few more hearts than our families : )
